Lewis and Clark addendum
I suppose Lewis and Clark could have surveyed Virginia with a pointing hand...weren't they commissioned by Thomas Jefferson as a result of the Louisiana Purchase? I don't know if their 'adventure' started in Virginia, however...for some reason adventure seems synonomous with 'west of the mississippi...'

actually i think their expedition started in PA, near pittsburgh where the ohio - monogahala - kanawha merge... their boat was made of the finest lumber from spruce knob, west virginia!!!
I was just thinking that at the very least they had trekked to monticello...to visit with T.j. Good to know about PA, though....
I dare say you are correct, I believe Lewis or Clark one came down the Ohio on the way to St. Louis (where the real trip began) along the border of present day West Virginia but what still would have been Virginia then, so you are correct I believe.
